The Joy of the Gospel

From the experience of the processing of the module on Teamwork and Community Building, we, the participants, were filled with enthusiasm to participate fully and truly in the Mission of Christ entrusted to Holy Mother the Church. However, we came to a realization that we cannot go out into our world to share this goodnews of Christ if we show sadness and anger or indifference as a result of our experience of being broken, wounded, fatigue and disintegrated. With this awareness of our present reality, were we discouraged?  No way! Rev. Sr. Lilian KAPONGO, Carmelite Missionary Sisters of St. Therese of Child Jesus, was invited to lead us in the process of re-energizing using the Encyclicals of Pope Francis, standing on a take-off pad, Evangelii Gaudium (The Joy of the Gospel).

In presenting the aim of this module, the facilitator re-energized us in the area of commitment to the mission of Christ of which the gospel message is the core, bringing to our awareness the present day reality of science and social dictates and inventions, becoming points of reference to human life in most societies. This challenge prompted Holy Mother the Church to come out with the Encyclical “Year of the Faith”.  She went on to say that our Christian catholic faith expression is founded on the events and life of Jesus especially his death and resurrection.

However, the experience so far today, indicates that some custodians of the goodnews of Christ tend to find their meaning and commitment in science and social dictates in their immediate environment. To address this, Holy Mother the Church through Pope Francis, invites all faithful to “be joyful for the gift of the gospel handed over to the Apostles by Christ.”  This invitation goes further, to challenge and also encourage us to live out the gospel with humane gestures of joy, refreshment and belief. The gospel should not be preached only but also to be lived as a lifestyle…
